Julien Schaal Mountain Vineyards Chardonnay 2023

 14,95 85,00

Kleur: helder lichtgeel
Geur: ingetogen, citrusfruit, voorjaarsbloemen, mineraal

Julien:
“Tangy, tart, sour plums and green apples combine with a creamy, mealy note. This is an attempt at serious Chablis that provides a satisfying alternative.”

Platter’s ****(*) 92/100 (oogst 2021)
Greener-spectrum starfruit, angelica & greengage zested with lime in 2021. Tighter, fresher expression of Elgin’s elevated vineyards. Similar ferment/oaking to Evidence, easily melding with vibrant fruit. Poised, elegant & ageworthy.

Christian Eedes 92/100
From Elgin grapes, predominantly Paul Cluver but also Lothian. Two thirds matured in barrel, one-third in tank. Lemon, blossom, herbs, a touch of vanilla and a trace of struck-match reduction. The palate is nicely weighted, clean and poised – concentrated fruit matched by snappy acidity, the finish dry. Terrific quality relative to price.

The Mountain Vineyards Chardonnay has been produced since 2005 and has won Platter’s 5 Star awards along that journey. It is a blend from different Wards and Districts in the Cape South Coast Region. Usually seeing a blend of stainless steel and oak (small percent new) for fermentation and elevage – this is a beautifully balanced medium bodied wine. Being neither “unoaked” or “oaky”, it is a hugely versatile wine that sits well with most Chardonnay drinkers.
