It wasn’t easy to make great Pinot Noirs in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in 2023, but using sorting tables helped. Windansea is a mix of mostly the 115 clone, with a little 115 and 777 and benefitted from its northern exposure. Sweetly wooded in 27% new oak, it has firmish tannins, notes of mint and petrichor and a savoury, stony palate of redcurrant and tomato leaf. 2025-30

Seadragon comes from a one-hectare parcel on a warmer, north-facing slope that was all the more valuable in a wet, cool vintage like 2023. Earthy, savoury and quite firm, with hints of rose petal, Turkish Delight and forest floor, flavours of ginger spice, plum and red berries and plenty of underlying acidity. 2024-29

Making the best of a tricky, rain-affected vintage, this 20% whole bunch-fermented Pinot Noir uses grapes from four single vineyards: Mrs M, Sandford, Seadragon and Windansea. Spicy, savoury and red-fruited, it has sinewy tannins, redcurrant and goji berry flavours and a medium weight, acid-driven finish. 2025-30
