Vinification
The grapes were hand-picked during the morning and kept in a coolroom at 10 degrees Celsius before crushing the next day. Before filling the tank we put 30% whole bunches and softly stomped with our feet to release juice before we filled the top with the crushed grapes. Ferment started spontaneously before inoculation with Laffort RB2 yeast. Pressing after 7 days on skins and malolactic fermentation was completed neutral barrels. Bottling in October 2023.

Rianie tasting note: Light vibrant red colour with purple pink edges. The palate is fresh with sweet tastes of strawberries, raspberries and candyfloss. The tannins are very soft and integrated and respects the fruitfullness of the wine. In spite of the softness, this wine will age beautifully.

The Strydom 2023 Stellenbosch Legends & Myths Cinsault is in its second year of production. Fruit comes from the vineyard outside the winery and yields are very low, rendering just one cluster per vine. This Cinsault is slightly darker and more concentrated compared to its peers with blackcurrant, blueberry and a hint of sweet caramel. Some 30% whole-bunch fruit is used. The name Legends & Myths refers to the common misconceptions associated with Cinsault. Following the devastation of phylloxera, this was one of the only varietals available in local nurseries. It was blended with Cabernet Sauvignon for many years. But as the climate grows hotter, people want a lighter, ruby-colored red to pair with contemporary foods. Cinsault has finally found its space.

Neutral, understated oak allows the fruit purity of Cinsault to express itself here, all pomegranate, wild strawberry and red cherry flavours, crunchy acidity, gentle, fine-boned tannins and a refreshing finish. Thirty per cent whole bunches add further texture. 2024-29
